Mission in this Education
Hi there, I’m Jazz!
I never imagined I’d shift my career path. As a child, I didn’t appreciate my curly hair and often straightened it, just like many others. It wasn’t until an encouraging hairdresser inspired me to embrace my curls and go for the big chop that I truly saw their beauty. He recognized what I couldn’t, and I took his advice to heart. Typically, when I visited salons, I was told that straightening was best for zero frizz. However, I struggled with my roots growing out after just a week or two, and I realized—why fight nature? That supportive hairdresser not only boosted my confidence but also understood my needs.
I invested in my skills locally, learning from various stylists and completing the National Certification for Hairdresser and Beauty courses, along with training from brands like L’Oréal Pro, Wella, and Schwarzkopf. Yet, I noticed a significant gap: there was little focus on how to cut curly hair.
At every salon, I’d ask for layers to maintain length and add shape, but they often discouraged layers, claiming it would make my hair bigger. After blow-drying, I’d end up with a bob cut that looked uneven once my curls returned to their natural state.
Determined to improve, I pursued higher education and training outside the Philippines. I’m grateful for the knowledge I gained—it truly changed everything for me. Now, I have a team at Cutz & Curlz Salon, and we continuously train not just our staff but also our clients, teaching them how to care for their curls properly. I’m still a lifelong learner, and I believe you should be too! Invest in your education and skills; this will lead to your success. Trust me, the clients you attract will be different!
